2015 Annual Appeal

June 1, 2015

Dear Town of Union Friends and Neighbors,

June 1, 2015 represents our third anniversary since our return to a community appeal for donations, and we want to say “THANK YOU!” for your continued support.

As we complete our 42nd year of service in 2015, we find ourselves persevering in our commitment to the Town of Union and again seek your continued support for our overall success. Through your tax deductible donation to UVES you will become a partner with us to continue serving your emergency healthcare needs.

In 2014, your generous donations helped support many of our initiatives, including:

  • Accredited as a Southern Tier HeartSafe Community Workplace.
  • Responded to more than 7,900 9-1-1 requests for service.
  • Implemented a patient satisfaction survey to obtain feedback on service.
  • Invested in personal protective equipment and developed comprehensive response plans for the global Ebola crisis that were successfully tested locally.
  • Improved upon the health and well-being of our members by launching a healthy living initiative called “Walk for Wellness”. Our members have walked more than 1 million steps in response to the program.
  • Updated our emergency pediatric bags to help serve our smallest patients.
  • Added in-house instructors for our emergency vehicle operators course (EVOC) to allow increased access to programs to improve our safety.
  • Expanded our semi-annual skills requirements for our pre-hospital providers, improving the overall quality of the program and exceeding minimum standards.
  • Recognized an 88% increase in the number of students instructed in American Heart Association CPR programs.
  • Completed work with the local American Heart Association offices allowing for collaboration on CPR initiatives; CPR in schools legislation; and local referrals.
  • Continued our Child Passenger Safety Seat Program, certifying an additional technician and providing installation and instruction to more than 30 parents and caregivers within the community.
  • Implemented a free community blood pressure screening outreach program in collaboration with local CVS Pharmacies in the greater Broome County Region.
  • Completed specifications for the replacement of our 10 year old Quick Response Vehicle. Ordering has been completed early in 2015.

This list only represents a small number of our accomplishments last year, and we continue working on our goals for 2015 and beyond.  Some of our key objectives for 2015 are:

  • Develop a local baby-sitting training program for our youth.
  • Work with the Town of Union to achieve HEARTSafe community recognition.
  • Recruit 15 new members certified as NYS EMT’s.
  • Increase staffing to meet increased demands (a 10% increase in the first half of 2015).
  • Complete specifications and obtain competitive bids to replace our two 2007 ambulances early in 2016.
  • Improve upon the use of simulation technology through updates and replacement of  equipment used for our CPR and community training programs.
  • Add new equipment utilized for emergency airway procedures to improve upon provider proficiency.
  • Update our controlled substance safes and electronic locks in our ambulances.
  • Expand use of our social media to provide pertinent data emphasizing service to the community.

As you can see, UVES has been busy committing ourselves to continuous improvements for you- Our Community.  The programs and improvements represent only a handful of what we have accomplished, and will continue to accomplish through 2015.
